Located in the peaceful wooded hillside of the owners’ estate, (Thiernswood Hall in Healaugh), Thiernswood Cottage is a traditional Yorkshire Dales holiday cottage. From the elevated position, Thiernswood Cottage has breath taking views of the Swaledale Valley and the dales beyond. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this Dales holiday cottage definitely offers that seclusion. The holiday cottage is accessed via a long well maintained tree lined drive (one third of a mile from the road), on one side and lush fields with the renowned Yorkshire Dales dry stone walls.
Thiernswood Cottage dates back to the middle of the 19th Century when it was built within the grounds of Thiernswood Hall. The cottage oozes with history and charm so desired from a traditional dales holiday cottage. Keen for guests to feel at home, the owners have taken steps to fully modernise this Yorkshire Dales style cottage. Refurbishments include the installation of two modern ensuites, and a quality kitchen with contemporary units, integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, oven and ceramic hob.
When approaching Thiernswood Cottage, garage parking is to the right of the property. This can also be used for the safe storage of outdoor equipment such as bikes or climbing gear. From here the holiday cottage is accessed through its private enclosed south facing garden.
This dales holiday cottages benefits from a porch – perfect for storing muddy boots and wet clothes. The porch leads you into the bright and airy kitchen. The kitchen has wooden floors and is fully equipped with all you should require for your stay, with plenty of storage space for personal items.
The kitchen leads through to the dining room which comfortably seats four people around a good sized table. A perfect setting for recounting the day’s adventures over dinner. The living room is accessed from the dining room and is very spacious with stunning views to the front of the property across Swaledale. It also has an open fire which adds additional warmth and appeal to the holiday cottage.
From the rear of the living room there is a flight of stairs which takes you up to the bedrooms. Immediately at the top of the stairs, to your right is the master bedroom. The master bedroom has amazing views across the local farmland from the large sash window, and benefits from an ensuite shower room.
Down the hallway to the rear of the property is the spacious twin bedroom. The twin bedroom is very bright and airy due to the dual aspect windows one to the rear of the property overlooking woodland and the other has views of the garden and farmland beyond. The bathroom with wc, basin and shower over is ensuite.
Thiernswood Cottage is very flexible and is suited for a family with two children or two couples. The central location of Healaugh is ideal if you are looking to explore the magnificent Yorkshire Dales National Park. Or, if you just want to escape from everything it is perfect as you can enjoy the beauty of the Dales from the warmth and comfort of the cottage or simply relax in the private garden and enjoy all that is on offer from this area of outstanding natural beauty. The local amenities such as the Reeth post office, corner shop, cafes, pubs and garage are only a short two mile drive or walk away.
The holiday cottage is heated throughout by night storage heaters, coal is supplied for the open fire during the winter months. From May onwards coal is not provided but it can be purchased onsite.
To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided in the rental price. The electricity is on a meter, the initial £5.00 is included in the rental charge.
First floor – 2 beds, sleeps 4: 1 x master double bedroom with ensuite shower, WC and basin. 1 x twin room with ensuite bathroom with shower over, WC and basin.
Ground Floor – fitted kitchen, living room with open fire, dining room, under stair store cupboard and porch.
Outside – Garden and spacious garage.
Electric oven and grill, ceramic hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, dining table and chairs, flat screen TV, DVD, free sat channels, radio, books, puzzles. Night storage heaters, immersion heater. Coal for the open fire during low and winter season. £5 on the electricity meter included in rent. Bed linen and towels included in rent. Garage parking for up to two cars. Enclosed lawned garden, garden furniture for four people, additional furniture kept under stairs. Sorry no pets. Sorry no smoking. Children welcome. A high chair can be provided but please bring your own travel cot and cot linen.
Thiernswood Cottage is available for week bookings Saturday to Saturday.
We can accept short break bookings in winter, low and mid seasons. Short breaks are 2 nights (Friday to Sunday), weekend breaks (3 nights, Friday to Monday) or mid-week breaks (4 nights, Monday – Friday). However if you do require alternative start dates, please call 01748 900 420 to discuss - we shall endeavour to accommodate your requirements.
