A cosy cottage away from the hustle and bustle!

Garbutt Cottage sits on the high green of Langthwaite Village, Arkengarthdale, a dale known for the outstanding and unspoilt natural beauty of the landscape. It is mainly a farming community but remains of lead mining activities still exist This cosy cottage based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park offers a warm welcome to couples, friends and families throughout the year.

Whilst sitting in the South facing garden reading a book or holidaying with friends, you can hear the babble of the beck as it runs alongside the section of garden which is fenced off. To the rear are fields, and through the trees you can see Calver Hill where the curlews call. St Mary’s Church sits proudly to the front of the property nestling amidst the dramatic scenery. All of this helps to create the relaxing feeling “away from the hustle and bustle”.

The picturesque village of the Dales, Langthwaite, boasts the Red Lion Inn which has appeared in several films including the TV Series All Creatures Great and Small. The Red Lion provides bar snacks and is open every day from 11 a.m. until 3.00 p.m. and 7p.m. until 11 p.m. serving locally brewed ale such as Black Sheep Bitter (www.redlionlangthwaite.co.uk). Garbutt Cottage is ideally placed to meander over Langthwaite Bridge and remember James Herriot as they sit a while in the Red Lion. Just a short walk up the road is the highly regarded C.B. Inn with its popular restaurant. Visitors can cycle or walk from the doorstep to access the fells of Arkengarthdale and nearby Swaledale. Activities are offered such as horse riding and cylces can be hired and maintained from dales cycles in Fremington just past Reeth.

Garbutt Cottage is approximately ten minutes drive from Reeth. Here there are seats placed around the village green to admire the impressive scenery of Swaledale. Facilities include post office, souvenir shops, grocery store ice cream parlour, pottery, tea rooms, pubs and hotels. Hudson House can assist with tourist information and leaflets. Reeth Bakery in Silver Street and the Scenicview Gallery are well worth a visit.

For exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Swaledale, Wensleydale, Teesdale and Cumbria, this comfortable cottage is positioned in a central location. The market towns of Leyburn and Hawes are not too far and a journey over Butter Tubs Pass should not be missed! Barnard Castle is in easy reach over the “Stang” Road and a little further on is Raby Castle at nearby Staindrop (www.rabycastle.com). The 11th Century Norman Castle at Richmond, which is approximately twelve miles from Langthwaite, overlooks this ancient market town which is steeped in history and boasts a Georgian Theatre, swimming pool, cinema (www.thestation.co.uk), shops, pubs, restaurants and museums.

Garbutt Cottage is all on ground level and welcomes children and one well behaved dog. A place to feel at home with nature whatever the season.

Accommodation and facilities

Ground Floor

The lounge, accessed from kitchen via 2 steps, has a log burning stove, flatscreen colour TV with FreeSat, DVD/CD player, books and games.

Kitchen

The dining kitchen, accessed via stable door, includes an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, washer/dryer, iron/ironing board.

Bedroom 1

Bedroom 1 is a double.

Ensuite

Reached via 3 steps, comprises shower, wash-hand basin, WC, heated towel rail and hairdryer.

Bedroom 2

Reached from the hallway up 2 steps, bedroom 2 is a single, with guest stowaway.

Short Breaks are sometimes offered for 3 nights. These are usually Saturday, Sunday and Monday but days are flexible, so please do contact us to see if your request can be accommodated!
