Strands Farmhouse Cottage
Gunnerside, North Yorkshire, DL11 6LF.
Self catering holiday cottage for 2 people in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales.
Stunning views over Swaledale
This charming cottage is situated within the rural community of the Yorkshire Dales National Park overlooking the River Swale and close to the ever popular views of the ancient walls, barns and fields known as Gunnerside Bottoms. An area of outstanding beauty.
Strands Farmhouse Cottage, once an old barn, has been sympathetically refurbished retaining many of the original features such as the old worn stone steps which lead to the original hay loft. An entrance porch adjoins the open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area with its log burning stove. The internal carpeted staircase leads to a spacious King size Bedroom with ensuite shower room. The bedroom external door offers a splendid view of the Dale.
From the property cycling and walks abound. The local bus can be hailed to stop outside the cottage itself. The route west takes one to Gunnerside, Muker and Keld and eastwards to Low Row, Reeth and Richmond.
Whilst travelling westward traditional Dales pubs provide local ales and food. In Gunnerside there is The Old Smithy Museum, a Bistro and the King’s Head pub which accepts dogs. On a Friday evening why not join the locals queuing for the popular mobile fish and chip shop.
From Strands Farmhouse Cottage travelling approximately 1.5 miles eastwards you will arrive at the village of Low Row with the Punch Bowl Inn on the left with a renowned restaurant. A further 3.5 miles and you will reach Reeth with seats scattered around the Village Green. Alfred Wainwright considered Reeth well worth a visit. There are pubs, hotels, restaurants, tearooms, gift shops and ice cream parlours. Hudson House is the Tourist Information Centre. The artisan Reeth Bakery should be visited as well as the small open air market held each Friday.
Reeth is approximately 8 miles from the ancient market town of Richmond which is steeped in history and boasts an 11th Century Norman Castle, Georgian Theatre, swimming pool, cinema, shops, pubs and restaurants. The bustling and historic market towns of Leyburn and Hawes are a short drive away, and to visit the breathtaking Buttertub Pass is a must
After a tiring day’s exploration, the cottage offers a small private garden to relax and soak up the Dales’ atmosphere. Or simply sit in front of the small log burning stove and enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
