Holiday cottage in Low Row, Yorkshire Dales National Park
Wardle House
Low Row, Reeth, North Yorkshire, DL11 6PE.
Self catering holiday cottage for up to 7 people situated in the village of Low Row within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Views across Swaledale
This south facing detached three bedroom house has been lovingly restored, combining character with smart modern furnishings and enjoys stunning views across Swaledale from all rooms and the private wall terrace. A welcoming setting for families and children, and would also suit two families. The cottage is eco-friendly as electricity is produced via solar panels. So if you visit Wardle House in the summer months you could turn off the boiler and it would only be the sun heating your water!
The first paper records date the property back to 1893 (although it is many years older than this). Over the years it has been occupied by lead miners and farmers. Drawings from 1910 show the lower ground floor was for stabling and hay storage and the upper ground floor used for the living quarters. In the past, Wardle House has been the local village store and café!
This holiday home is ideally located for exploring Swaledale, one of the least spoilt Yorkshire Dales with its flower meadows and stone barns, as well as the surrounding area including Arkengarthdale, Wensleydale and the Upper Eden Valley. Just a short walk from the cottage, the village pub, The Punch Bowl, has been re-developed and offers superb food, excellent ale and great hospitality. Below the house you can walk down to the river and turn left to visit the village of Gunnerside with the Old Smithy and Kings Head Pub which serves food in front of the multi-fuel stove. Alternatively walk right and visit the bustling village of Reeth with its pubs, tearooms, bakery, souvenier shops, museum and children’s park.
The nearby market town of Richmond has The Station where you can enjoy some refreshment or visit the Cinema or swimming pool. A visit to the Richmond's 11th Century Norman Castle, Georgian Theatre, swimming pool, cinema, shops, pubs and restaurants are all reccommended. Hawes, another old market town, with Dales Museum, Rope Maker, cafes, restaurants, pubs and Wensley Dale Creamery where you can taste a selection of cheeses and see the cheese being produced. A trip to Hawes over the Butter Tubs pass is a must!
Relax after a busy day of exploring this wonderful environment in front of the multi fuel stove housed in the dining room or open fire in the Lounge. On those warmer days and evenings dine alfresco and soak up the magnificent panaroma and listen to the sound of the Curlew, Oyster Catcher or Owl.
