All Creatures Great & Small and Swaledale

Swaledale All Creatures Great and SmallSwaledale became famous when its winding roads and quiet villages were used in the hit BBC TV series, All Creatures Great And Small. The programme, about a veterinary practice in Yorkshire, ran from the late 70's, during the 80's and had its final show in 1990.

All Creatures Great and Small began as a series of novels by British vet James Herriot (real name Alf Wight) and the programme went on to become a huge part of British culture. For local residents of Swaledale however, it reflected much of the way of life from the earlier part of the century.

Although Swaledale has long said goodbye to the film crews, the villages and locations of famous scenes haven't changed at all. In fact, the memorable "SPLASH" scene when the car drives through a small stream is directly behind a couple of Holiday Home Yorkshire's cottages.
