The Dales - new ITV1 tv servies with Adrian Edmondson
Monday, 28 March 2011 19:54
“Remote communities, isolated farms, lush green valleys and limestone pavements – this landscape challenges the people who live and work here – there’s nowhere else like it in Britain. But it’s the warm Yorkshire spirit of the people who live here that keeps the heart of the Dales beating” Adrian Edmondson In a new, 12-part series for ITV1, Adrian Edmondson returns to the county of his birth, Yorkshire, to bring us the stories behind a summer in the life of the Yorkshire Dales. The Dales started tonight at 8pm on ITV1. Spectacularly beautiful they may be – but the Dales are also a challenging environment for the people who live there in some of its remote communities. Adrian used to spend many of his childhood summers in the Yorkshire Dales with his family, but in this series he meets a number of characters who live all year round there amidst the stunning scenery of landmarks like Bolton Abbey and Aysgarth Falls.
They include 16 year-old Philip Mellin who has just left school and is taking on the running of the family farm, alongside his mum Carol, after the death of his dad last year. There’s also shepherdess Amanda Owen who balances’ running a 900-strong sheep farm with husband Clive, while bringing up five young children – the youngest is only four weeks old. From the Wensleydale Railway to Leyburn Brass Band and a real life Vicar of Dibley, The Dales provides a unique insight into one of England’s most iconic locations through the eyes of the people who live there... Walk around Aysgarth and West Burton
Sunday, 20 February 2011 00:00
Having parked in the George and Dragon pub car park, Aysgarth, we spent a lovely couple of hours walking from Aysgarth to West Burton and back. This was an easy (and quiet) loop walk passing Aysgarth Falls and treking through fields and woodland to West Burton, where we refreshed ourselves at the Fox and Hounds pub. It was then a nice stroll back to Aysgarth, and a final short climb up a couple of steep fields to the car. Walk around Brompton on Swale and Scorton North Yorkshire
Thursday, 10 February 2011 15:10
Went for a wonderful dog walk today around Brompton on Swale and Scorton, just outside Richmond and very near to Northallerton. Lovely puffy white clouds, sunny (had to wear sunglasses!) and warm - a great spring-like day. Had view of Richmond on the hill and beyond towards the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the other direction views of the North York Moors - both great holiday destinations with plenty of self-catering holiday accomodation and cottages. Walk around Hawes and Askrigg
Tuesday, 08 February 2011 00:00
We spent the afternoon in Hawes today for a walk, and ended up in the Kings Head in Askrigg - the famous pub better known as 'The Drovers' in All Creatures Great and Small. Would be interested in your stories of trips to Hawes, Askrigg and surrounding areas in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Rainbow over Yorkshire
Friday, 04 February 2011 13:35
I was out walking the dog today, an ambitious endeavour given blustery wind and rain – but boy am I glad I ventured outside! A wonderful rainbow just outside of Richmond, North Yorkshire. I just wish I had my DSLR camera with wide angle lens on me, as opposed to a phone with camera!
