Medieval music comes to Richmond for Christmas
Last night we attended a Christmas concert by The York Waits at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond. The York Waits recreated the story of the Nativity using Medieval music from the Middle Ages, utilising instruments such as the hurdy gurdy, bagpipes, harp, crumhorn, shawm, flute, guitar, pipes, recorder and the sackbut. The band were joined by soprano singer Deborah Catterall.
We were entertained from start to finish, accompanied by a festive glass of mulled wine and a mince pie at the interval. What is fascinating is the ability of all the band to play such a wide range of no longer seen musical instruments.
A fabulous night was had by all, and wonderfull start to the Christmas season in North Yorkshire!
The York Waits are performing a number of concerts throughout the region this Christmas, and we encourage you to check them out - take a look at their website.
