Area Guide

Long winding roads lead to beautiful places : )

Blubberhouses

Blubberhouses is a small village on the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton in the Washburn Valley, slightly south of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Blubberhouses is minutes from the Fewston Reservoir where there are some lovely romantic walks to enjoy.

There is also an adjoining reservoir, Swinsty, which is also picturesque particularly during the summer months, where you can enjoy an ice cream or two from the van that is located in the car park. Fewston and Swinsty are two of four reservoirs that were built to supply water to Leeds.

River Washburn, Blubberhouses

The village of Blubberhouses is a small but pleasant village that has the River Washburn flowing through the centre. The river flows south from Washburn Head in the Yorkshire Dales National Park till it reaches and joins  the River Wharfe, on route it passes through the four reservoirs; Thruscross, Fewston, Swinsty and Lindley.

Bolton Abbey & Priory

Blubberhouses is very close to Bolton Abbey Estate which is a wonderfully relaxing day out. There is so much to do in the extensive grounds of 30,000 acres, but one of the main focal point is the ruins of Bolton Priory followed by strolls down by the River Wharfe.
