Accomodation Description

Charlie’s Stable is a fantastic stone built Yorkshire Dales holiday cottage in Swaledale that has recently been converted and is situated in the beautiful village of Reeth where Arkengathdale and Swaledale meet.

The owner has taken great care to achieve a modern feel whilst keeping many of the original features that give this wonderful dales holiday cottage its character and charm. Charlie’s Stable is steeped in history and was once a stable. The property name was given to this house in the loving memory of the last horse that was housed here, Charlie.

Charlie’s Stable holiday cottage has a spacious and airy lounge, decorated in neutral colours and with a comfortable sofa it is a calm place to relax after an active day in the Yorkshire Dales. There is also a small dining table positioned in front of the window that will happily seat two people.

The narrow, but compact kitchen is well equipped and has everything you should require for your stay. Charlie’s stable also has a barbeque for your use, which allows for dining alfresco in the fabulous summer months. There is a separate garden adjacent to the River Arkle, which provides a lovely sound as you enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.

The double bedroom is on the first floor and has the original beamed roof with fantastic views across the dales and fells that are sure to put a spring in your step if this is the first thing you see in the morning. In the bedroom there is plenty of storage, a television and plenty of light from the velux roof window.

The bathroom is also located on the first floor and includes a separate electric shower and bath. The heating in Charlie’s Stable is controlled by oil fired central heating and there is a private parking area for 1 car.

Charlie’s Stable is one of our dog friendly holiday cottages, one well behaved dog welcome (if you have more than one dog please call 01748 900420). This Dales holiday cottage is an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation as there are many walks nearby, including Fremington Edge which is literally on the doorstep.

The history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

  2. Paul

We had a lovely stay at this excellent cosy cottage over the Christmas period. The host has done a perfect job in making the cottage very comfy. The location is superb and it is dog friendly. Lots of walks in the countryside are on the doorstep. The Village has some nice pubs a short walk away from the cottage . Highly recommended

  3. John

Very enjoyable stay, will be back sometime.

  4. Derek

Charlies stable was excellent, very clean, comfortable, well thought out with lots of added extras.
The views were great and Reeth was a lovely Swalecliffe village.

  5. Margaret

Knowing that there had been devastating floods just 3 weeks prior to our stay, Rose did a fabulous job to ensure our stay was fabulous. The situation of the property is great handy for walks up and down the dale. The property is first class and really made a home from home. The garden sitting area is excellent and quite exciting being so close to the river, since the flood. Thank you so much for making the stay so enjoyable…the welcome package was wonderful.

  6. Patricia

We had a great stay here and I can’t wait for our next visit

  7. Deborah

Charlie’s Cottage was a perfect place to stay for a relaxing long weekend away. 5 minutes walk to the lovely Reeth Village with 3 nice pubs and endless walks. The cottage itself was just the right size for a couple and was equiped with everything we needed. Some added extras were eggs, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee. Lovely large bedroom and bathroom with top quality bedding and towels. The bed was huge and so comfy. There was plenty of storage space too. Cosy living area with open plan kitchen. Free access to Netflix and WiFi. We didn’t make use of the log burner as the heating settings were spot on. Another thing we didn’t make use of was the lovely garden area across the yard next to the river. Wrong time of year for us but would be lovely to make use of in the summer. You can see so much work effort and quality has gone into this little cottage yet the cost to rent it was very reasonable. Would recommend to anyone wanting some relaxing time away.

  8. Sheila

The sound of a rippling Beck, being woken by a song thrush and lambs in the field next door. It was a perfect location with easy access to all the amenities of Reeth village. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard with a fabulous large, airy bedroom and all mod cons. Rose is very friendly and willing to help with anything. I highly recommend Charlie’s stable

  9. Brian

A warm welcome package to greet us in this outstanding accommodation. All amenities available. Close to the village with 3 nice pubs. Many close walking routes in this lovely. countryside.

  10. Jacob

The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we could possibly need. The bed was super comfy and simply huge with high quality bedding, what a luxury!
We would highly recommend the cottage and would love to come back one day.

  12. Jackie

An absolute fabulous cottage, wonderfully designed and so very cosy and warm for cold winter nights. It has everything you want, it is home from home. We loved our stay in Charlie’s cottage, Reeth. It is a beautiful location and there are walks from your doorstep. Rose and David and there famiy are lovely people and we look forward to returning to Reeth in the near future. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.

  14. Steve

Perfect little cottage for a couple. Cozy with everything you could need. Loved the location on the edge of the village with the beck and fields right outside the door. Fresh eggs and chocolate biscuits on arrival was a fantastic touch. Reeth is a perfect Yorkshire village with 3 nice pubs and many great walking trails. We loved every minute of our visit.

  15. Christine

Four night stay at Charlie’s Stable. The cottage was perfect, everything you need for a great stay. Extra touches of fresh local eggs, biscuits and milk most welcome. Quality hand soaps and hand lotion a bonus, hosts have thought of every detail. Perfect location, I would definitely recommend this property.

  16. Rachel

We had a lovely stay in Charlie’s Stable, it is a short walk from the green and is nestled alongside the beck. Being set back from the main green it is really peaceful.
Everything we needed for a comfortable few days was there, ample tea, coffee and biscuits and some delicious fresh eggs from Rose’s hens. Kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom has a shower and a bath. There is a shared laundry room which was great.
It’s so handy to find a cottage accepting of two dogs, our two whippets enjoyed their stay too.
There are lots of beautiful walks on the doorstep. The ice cream parlour is a must! Make sure if you want to eat out on a Friday night in August, you book into one of the pubs in advance, it can get very busy!
Overall a fabulous stay, we loved Charlie’s Stable!

  17. John

Very private, quiet, clean and cosy. We had a lovely stay at Charlie’s Stable. A babbling brook at the bottom of the garden. Close to walks. Good pubs in Reeth and Charlie’s Stable was just a short walk from the amenities.

  18. Ian

What a fantastic stay at Charlies Stable, the accomodation and surroundings are excellent, Rose and David could not be more friendly and helpful, all in all it was a perfect week away.We will definitely be booking to go back next year

  19. Sandra

The name Charlie’s Stable is deceiving. The cottage is much bigger than you think. Charlie easily could have had his whole family to stay!
We loved the cottage and the way it is secluded, but still very near the village. Rose and her husband are very nice and welcoming people and working hard to make the surroundings of the cottage even nicer. The cottage itself is very cosy, all be it a bit frilly for Dutch taste. Good WiFi, big tv. The only thing we had a problem with, is the bed: for us it was way too firm.

  20. Christine

It was just a short break for 4 nights. We were looking for some easy, short walks and there were some lovely walks from the cottage itself. There were also some lovely walks just a short drive away, we went to Aysgarth Falls and this was well worth the visit. The village was a short walk away and had 3 nice pubs, and crucially all were dog friendly. Rose was very helpful and welcoming.

  21. Roy

It was a lovely and warm cottage would go again had a great weekend

  22. Sonia

We spent 5 days at Charlie’s stable with our spaniel and thoroughly enjoyed it. The setting was beautiful and the cottage is very spacious and has everything you could need for a short holiday.

  23. Andrew

Really enjoyed our stay at Charlie’s stable, very quiet, lovely location with running stream on one side and newborn lambs in the adjoining field. Many thanks to Rose for a welcoming stay.

  24. Kevin

Me, my wife Jean and mongrel Sade stayed for 3 nights in March. Cottage was very homely and cosy, spacious and clean and had everything you could wish for to self cater.
Location is great. Five minutes walk to village centre pubs and amenities with many walks on the doorstep. Reeth is perfect for chilling out and getting away from it all.
We met Rose who is very approachable and friendly.
Had a great stay. 3 days nowhere near enough. Thoroughly recommend Charlie’s Stable and Reeth.

  25. Diane

Just had a fabulous stay in this lovely quaint cottage. Very handy for the village centre and some great walks. Quiet and peaceful location too. It had everything we needed; kitchen well equipped, plenty of storage space in the bedroom and a bath as well as a shower. It was also warm and cosy, so nice to return to after a days walking. The large bedroom was fantastic, nice traditional decor and great views. Tv and wi-fi were good too, with strong signals. Dog friendly accommodation was essential for me, so all in all we had a great time and would definitely recommend it.

  26. Melinda

The cottage feels spacious and relaxing and is very comfortably furnished. It’s got everything you need, well-equipped kitchen, lots of hot water, comfy sofa and bed and it was spotlessly clean. The bedroom is particularly spacious and there’s lots of storage space; it has a wonderful, peaceful feel. The views are great, especially from the bedroom. The cottage is in a beautifully quiet location, yet only five minutes pleasant walk from Reeth village centre. There are so many walks you can do from the door, there’s no need for the car. Would definitely return here and we don’t say that about all cottages.

  27. Richard

Enjoyed 3 nights in the cottage. Loved the location just at the edge of the village. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. Everything has been thought of to make sure you enjoy your stay. Good location if you enjoy hiking. Would love to come again in the warmer weather.

  28. Philip

Although the weather could have been better we had a very relaxing weekend stay in this superb cottage. The village centre, with its three bars is only a couple of minutes walk away. Ideal location for walking the dales. Definitely would recommend a stay here.

  29. Shiela

We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable cottage, which is in a peaceful setting. It is handy for access to the village (although up a steep road) and also for walks in the local area. The village pubs are dog friendly and provide excellent food.
