Accommodation Description

Corner House is a traditional stone cottage in the pretty village of Grinton in Swaledale. The property sleeps up to five people in three bedrooms and is only a stone’s throw from the village pub that has a host of fine wines, well-kept real ales and is also popular for its fine food and great atmosphere.

This holiday cottage is situated at the foot of Grinton Moor, opposite St Andrews Church which is widely known as The Cathedral of The Dale. Grinton Moor is one of the country’s most renowned grouse moors.  The moor was also thrust into the limelight during the 2014 Tour de France as it hosted the last climb of Stage 1 and still remains a popular cycling route today.

As a traditional Yorkshire Dales Cottage, Corner House boasts Yorkshire charm and features some original characteristics such as the exposed beam ceilings in the living room and dining room. The property is heated throughout by night storage heaters, but also benefits from a multi-fuel stove in the living room for additional heat should it be required.

Corner House is comfortable and features modern conveniences such as unlimited WiFi and 32” smart TV with FreeSat, however these do not distract from the cosy, homely feel of the cottage. There is a well-equipped kitchen with plenty of storage space, comfortable seating in the living room for five people and a spacious dining room.

Upstairs, there are 3 spacious bedrooms, all of which have space for a travel cot; 1 king, 1 double and 1 twin. The master bedroom overlooks the grounds of St Andrews Church with Calver Hill in the distance, the twin bedroom is light and airy and has lovely views towards Fremington Edge, and the double bedroom is at the rear of the cottage overlooking the bubbling beck. There is also a shower room with shower cubicle, basin and w.c. with an adjacent cloakroom with WC and handbasin. Please note there are steps down to the back bedroom, and also to the shower room and adding cloakroom.

This holiday cottage is ideal for anyone who wishes to explore the Yorkshire Dales. There are multiple walks straight from the door, from high level hikes up Fremington Edge to lower level riverside walks along the River Swale.

Corner House offers secure bike storage and is the perfect spot to start many bike rides – both road and mountain bike rides. Just down the road from the cottage is the ever popular Dales Bike Centre. If you don’t have a bike yourself, you can hire one here as they have a large range of hire bikes available, including electric bikes if you need help up the hills!

Access to the Swale Trail is also close by. The Swale Trail is a purpose built, 12-mile track that runs from Grinton up the valley to Keld. It was built for aspiring young mountain bikers and for families who want to ride together. The Trail also doubles up as a nice route for those with pushchairs and perhaps for those with mobility issues as it is surfaced with stone and fairly flat. (Particularly at the Grinton end of the trail).

Corner House has a small patio garden to the front of the cottage with pretty flowerbeds and shrubs together with garden furniture and a small barbecue. Alongside the cottage is a small area of common land (known as “the village green”), providing off-street parking for one car on a first come first served basis. Further parking can be found in the village.

As one of our dog friendly holiday homes, Corner House welcomes one well behaved dog. There are a number of dog friendly pubs in the area and plenty of dog friendly walks close by which make this dales holiday cottage an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation. The cottage has a useful entrance porch for storing outdoor clothes and boots – and a perfect place to clean up pet dogs’ messy paws!

To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided. Electricity and smokeless fuel are included in the rental price.

Great cottage with plenty of space, lovely views of fells from bedroom windows, comfy beds and all other comforts provided. Would stay here again.

  2. John

As you know we know the area well,so had an easy week re-visiting various favourite haunts.Had lunch at Bike centre with some relations who live near Bedale.
The shower room roof beam was a bit of a pain, quite literaly, perhaps some padding could be added for future guests?

  3. Basia

Everything we need was there! The cottage was fantastic, everything was there. The location is perfect, lots the walks without the car! Lucky the weather was fantastic. Of course pub over the road was very good.

  4. Christine

I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family and hope to return for another visit. The house is in a beautiful location overlooking the church with a good pub just across the road. All the information given was accurate, useful and thorough. The sitting room was very comfortable and cosy, the kitchen well equipped and both bedrooms spacious and beautifully presented. It was great to have a second cloakroom next to the main bathroom and a very sunny garden at the front of the property.
Swale dale is extremely beautiful and unspoilt and we loved exploring on foot, in the car and by using the Little White Bus. The range of local walks from Grinton and Reeth were excellent and we particularly enjoyed our walk around Kisdon taking in the villages of Muker, Thwaite and Keld. We would also recommend a trip to nearby Castle Bolton.
Overall a wonderful base to explore the Yorkshire Dales and Richmond.

  5. Denise

The listing described the property accurately. The property was clean and well maintained and we would willingly recommend the property to a friend or relative. The gentle walk into Reeth, with its attractions, was enjoyable and gave you an appetite for the good food available at the pubs in Reeth and Grinton. All in all a good holiday!
