This holiday cottage is bursting with the Dales charm which has been tastefully combined with modern furnishings to become a superb Dales holiday cottage close to the Keld Chapel and Resource Centre.

Rose Cottage benefits from a new and well equipped kitchen with adjacent dining area with multi-fuel stove, a utility room – perfect for storage of wet coats and muddy boots, a comfortable lounge with electric fire, three light and airy bedrooms, a bathroom with separate shower and an outhouse for secure bike storage. In addition to the two fires the holiday cottage is heated throughout by oil central heating and offers free Wi-Fi.

Rose Cottage also has an attractive and good sized, stone flagged, front garden with established flower beds and garden furniture – a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine on a summer’s evening. Parking is on the road adjacent to the cottage and further parking can be found around the village.

Due to its spacious layout, this Swaledale holiday cottage is ideal for families and friends holidaying together either for a week or two, or a short break. Located in upper Swaledale, there is easy access into the neighbouring dale of Wensleydale over the infamous Buttertubs Pass – an unforgettable and extremely stunning route. Or take a journey up to the highest pub in England the Tan Hill Inn or take a leisurely drive down dale to discover the quaint villages and hamlets of Swaledale including Muker, Gunnerside and Reeth.

There are numerous walks close by many of which can be accessed straight from the door including Kisdon Hill and Swinner Gill. Parts of the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast are also nearby. As are many moorland walks, waterfalls and the historic remains of the lead mines from the industry that once thrived in the area in days gone by. The area is also very popular for cyclist as there are many mountain bike trails and road routes including the route of the 2014 Tour de France Grand De Part.

Other local points of interest to visit includes the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes. Hawes is also the home of attractions such as the Wensleydale Creamery, the Dales Countryside Museum and the Rope Makers amongst other things. The Georgian town of Richmond is approximately 40 minutes’ drive which is home to an impressive castle, Georgian Theatre, numerous restaurants, a cinema and a swimming pool.

To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed and kitchen linen, towels, electric, oil and initial supply of fuel for the multi-fuel stove is included in the rental price.

Really enjoyed our stay, fab location great cottage, excellent communication with the owners!

  3. Simon

Beautiful cosy cottage, spotless and superbly equipped. Brilliant and reassuring communication from Alison before Christmas even to ask if we wanted the decorations leaving up – a lovely touch. Looking forward to seeing Alison on Bake-Off in 2020. Best fruit cake ever!
The cottage is perfect, deceptively spacious with lovely comfy beds
We had an issue with the boiler which left us without heating. Ray and Alison responded within 10 minutes and, at one stage, it felt like the whole village came out to help resolve the issue. Lovely people.
Keld is perfectly located for a walking holiday, our kids particularly loved the waterfall walk. Heartily recommend a hike over Kidson hill for lunch at the Farmer’s Arms in Muker.
Many thanks to Alison, Ray, Claire and Andrew for a perfect New Year getaway.
We fell in love with Rose Cottage, Keld and Swaledale.

  4. Scot

A quality property in a great location, well equipped and comfortable. Trails and footpath access in all directions: 12 days of great hiking with this lovely cottage as a base.

Amazing place to stay, cake and flowers provided on arrival as well as a phone call to check all was ok. Stunning area to stay in with amazing views and water falls. Would definitely recommend and stay again! Was very reasonably priced too!

  6. Louise

Would recommend this property to all people wanting a secluded break in the stunning Swaledale countryside.
    Amazing property, could not fault.
Alison’s home baked Tea Loaf found on arrival was the icing on the cake!
Fantastic walks from the property so we did not move the car for a few days. We really enjoyed looking at all the Cow’uses. (Term used in Swaledale for a cow-house) and hogg houses
(sheep houses -hoggs are young sheep – not pigs!). Learnt lots about the area and history in the village information centre.

  7. Lisa

On arrival we were greeted with fresh flowers and a home made cake from Alison. We had also been allowed to arrive early.
The cottage is beautiful and spacious with all the the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The comfy recliner sofas in the lounge were fantastic after a long walk and the the neighbour’s (Sheep) often pop up in the window to say hello!
There is a small shop in the camp site at the end of the village which is open seasonally but was helpful for bits and bobs during our stay 🙂
There is a beautiful circular walk to Muker on the doorstep passing waterfalls and glorious views on the way. Eat at the Farmers Arms in Muker you will not be disappointed!
Overall fantastic location, wonderful cottage and the owner is super helpful and kind.

  8. Ruth

The cottage was exemplary – comfortable and well appointed. Beds were comfortable and there was a generous bathroom. Each room had different coloured towels to avoid confusion. Beautiful views and great walking country. Alison phoned on the first evening to check that everythng was OK. The garden is now more extensive and prettier than in the photo. Highly recommend!

Rose cottage was lovely – exactly the break we were after. There are some lovely walks you can do straight from the door. It’s also a beautiful setting with a lovely courtyard which is a great place for a cuppa in the sun.

  10. Pamela

A perfect spot for a Yorkshire Holiday. The cottage has everything you need and more besides. Alison Calvert is perfect hostess even baking a cake!

  11. Fons

A clean and cosy house, a nice and friendly owner in an environment that every walking tourist can only dream about.

  12. David

Beautiful spotless cottage in an amazing setting. A real home from home, cake and flowers waiting for us on arrival arrival and an early evening phone call from owner Alison to check all was well.
We really didn’t want to leave the peace and tranquility of the cottage sat on the beautiful setting of Keld in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales we will 100% return in the near future.

  13. Pearl

Despite the weather, we enjoyed a truly relaxing break in this beautiful cottage nestled in the village of Keld. Stunning scenery and such an interesting area with an amazing little resource centre directly opposite the cottage.

  14. Griffith

A tastefully modernised and well equipped traditional stone cottage providing comfortable accommodation in the centre of Keld which is arguably the most beautiful village in the most beautiful of the Yorkshire Dales.

  15. John

A fantastic location with a great house and a friendly & supportive owner. Couldn’t have asked for more. Oh, better not forget the cake on arrival. It’s now achieving legendary status along with the vase of fresh flowers

We really enjoyed our short 3 night stay in Keld, Richmond. Swaledale is a lovely part of the country and an interesting area to see. We visited Muker for Sunday lunch, Hawes to visit the creamery, Hardraw to see the force, Aysgarth to walk

  17. Lesley

We really enjoyed our short 3 night stay in Keld, Richmond. Swaledale is a lovely part of the country and an interesting area to see. We visited Muker for Sunday lunch, Hawes to visit the creamery, Hardraw to see the force, Aysgarth to walk the triple flight of waterfalls and had dinner one evening at Keld Lodge, which is walking distance from Rose Cottage – all great. Rose Cottage is perfect, lots of thoughtful touches, very clean and a perfect place to be based to visit this part of Yorkshire. Alison the owner is a perfect host too. Think we will be back!

  18. Barbro

The moment we walked into Rose Cottage we all fell in love with it! The coziness, the decor, the fully equipped kitchen, the wood burner in the kitchen/dining area, the gas burner in the lounge, the super comfy beds, huge warm bathroom….all of it made us feel at home and welcomed. The tasty tea bread, baked by Alison, was consumed with great pleasure.
Set in the tiny hamlet of Keld this cottage became the center for multiple walks on the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Path. A nice little 2.2 mile walk up and over the hills down to Muker and a wonderful pub, The Farmer’s Arms, provided some lively entertainment. The pub served all gluten free pub food, which was delicious. Keld itself has quite a history which was interesting to read about.
Alison and Ray were very attentive hosts, making sure we had everything we needed. Quite lovely folks.
We have already discussed a return visit next year for a longer stay.

  19. Shaun

Lovely cottage in a lovely peaceful setting! Rose cottage was a home from home and Alison’s homemade cake and flowers made an even more welcome visit! Look forward to revisiting.

  22. Ralph

The cottage had every thing needed for a pleasant and comfortable holiday, it is clean and well presented with modern up to date furniture.
The surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful, lovely walks and waterfalls, and within travelling distance to many historical attractions.
Be aware that the roads in the area are narrow and twisty, but don’t be put off by this as the scenery is worth the visit.

  23. Robert

Couldn’t fault this property – very comfortable and clean with good facilities. Very pleasant sitting on the patio in the evening sun.
Very quiet location. Recommend The Keld Lodge for eating out. We stayed over a bank holiday and everywhere in Swaledale seemed to be booked up for evening food with Kirkby Stephens and Hawes being the nearest place to get supplies.

  24. Jane

Delightful cottage embedded in the hillside. Wildlife coming right up to the sitting room window. Great walks, waterfalls and pubs close by.

  25. Peter

Had very nice stay but too short. We’ll be back!

  26. Susan

This cottage was very homely. It had everything you needed and more. It was very clean, had a lovely outside area with views around. I would recommend and return.

  27. Stephen

Our stay in beautiful Swaledale was greatly enhanced by the accommodation we found in Rose Cottage. It is cosy, warm, extremely well equipped and very clean. We could not have wanted a better place to stay for our short break and will not hesitate to revisit some time in the future. Thanks.
