Accommodation Description

Swale View is a detached, well-appointed Dales cottage in the rural village of Low Row in Swaledale close to Reeth and Gunnerside. Set in a tranquil spot at the edge of the village it has views across the farmland and meadows towards the River Swale. What’s more, it is also only a short walk to the local pub, The Punch Bowl, which is well known in the area for its delicious food, extensive wine list and well-kept, real ales.

This beautiful Swaledale holiday home dates back to the 1750’s and offers comfortable accommodation for 5 people and up to two well behaved dogs. The accommodation is warm and welcoming benefitting from fresh, modern décor mixed with traditional features such as inglenook fireplaces and beamed ceilings.

You enter into the cottage via a large porch, which incidentally, also doubles up as a drying room for wet coats and muddy boots, with an extractor fan and electric radiator thoughtfully positioned under a drying rack!

The rest of the down stairs comprises a spacious tiled entrance hall with the living room and kitchen leading off to the left and the right. The large farmhouse style kitchen has had no expense spared with; a bespoke oak kitchen counter and cupboards made by a local craftsman and luxury goods such as a Delonghi electric range cooker, a huge double Aga fridge freezer and a Smeg dishwasher. There are also many shelves filled with quality pots, pans, baking equipment and as many cooking utensils you can name…a home cooks dream!

Leading off from the kitchen is the dining room in the new extension. The dining table seats 6 people comfortably, and also benefits from a multi-fuel stove to create a warm ambiance for you and your party to retell the events from the day out hiking or exploring the dales.

The kitchen also benefits from French doors that lead out to the enclosed patio area to the front of the cottage. Which is the ideal place to enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of wine on a warm summer evening.

The living room is fitted out with high quality furnishings including a large, comfy leather sofa, an arm chair, a 40” flat screen Smart TV and has a large multi-fuel stove situated in a grand inglenook fireplace as a central feature. The cottage also offers free WiFi and gas central heating throughout. Should further heating be required in the living room there is also a small but powerful wall mounted electric heater.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, the master bedroom is a very spacious king bedroom. Room two has a double bed with a sink area and room three is a cosy single bedroom. All three rooms enjoy views across the farmland towards the River Swale. The bathroom is also upstairs and comprises of a bath with shower over, basin, WC and an electric heater.

The area is packed with landmarks such as the remains of the lead mines and straight from the door you can enjoy many great walks and bike rides such as; a section of the coast to coast, a hike up Gunnerside Ghyll, or a gentle meander along the River Swale. You can also access the Swale Trail from Gunnerside, taking you either to Keld or Reeth. This is a new unsurfaced path for families who would like to ride bikes together but is also great for those wanting to walk a flatter route or perhaps have a buggy.

In addition to The Punch Bowl pub in the village of Low Row, there is the Kings Head 2 miles west in the beautiful village of Gunnerside, which serves really good pub food for lunch and dinner. There is also Ghyll Foot Tea Rooms and Bistro which serves lunches and teas all day, dinners 2 evenings a week and a very tasty Sunday lunch. 4 miles east is Reeth, a slightly larger village with a big village green, 3 pubs, 4 cafes, 2 bakeries, a hotel with bar and restaurant, a garage and village stores for all your essentials!

At Swale View there is ample parking for two cars available on the private road leading to Swale View.

Swale View is one of our dog friendly holiday homes, two well behaved dogs welcome. There are a number of dog friendly pubs in the area and plenty of dog friendly walks close by which make this dales holiday cottage an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation.

To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided and electric and gas is included in the rental price. The owner is also nearby in a small barn to help if required

Location

Low Row

The Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley. Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...

Reeth

The history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

Lovely Stay at Swales View . Neil (the owner) was a great host … there if you needed him . We felt right at home straight away . Hope to return

  2. Ali

Wonderful cottage, so peaceful and views were amazing. Cottage was well equipped and very homely. Owner made us very welcome and was nearby if we had any questions or issues. Thoroughly enjoyed a variety of stunning walks direct from the cottage, and also exploring local area. Best bit was enjoying morning coffee on the little patio, soaking in the view and enjoying the peace and quiet. Would definitely recommend this cottage to others.

  3. Val

This is a real gem of a cottage situated on a small stretch of green lane with car parking nearby and everything is provided for your comfort. The owner lives opposite and he is very friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble! There is a tiny enclosed piece of garden and patio where it is safe to let the dog out and plenty of walks from the door including along the River Swale. There is a really good pub within five minutes walking distance in the village and it is just a short car journey to Reeth and Muker and Gunnerside. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and plan to return later in the year!

  4. Zosia

A beautiful place to stay. We walked, ran, fished, fed the lambs and barely used the car all week. The house is perfect with stunning views. Everything you need is there. It’s homely and the high quality kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. Two log burners makes it really cosy. Views from the beds are wonderful. Neil (in the barn next to the house) was so helpful – even brought in our shopping and lit the fire for our arrival. The welcome pack was generous too!

Swale View is located in the quiet hamlet of Low Row. It’s a traditional cottage set back from the road on a dirt track. If you’re planning a mainly outdoors activity holiday, it’s a perfect base. The cottage is very well equipped, comfortable beds, lots of hot water, great drying room and dog friendly. There is also a lovely multi fuel stove in the lounge, great for cosy nights in. We enjoyed our stay.

  12. Marcus

We have just spent a fantastic two weeks in this stunning cottage. It’s very much felt like home from home so as a family we settled really quickly and it has everything you need for a self catering holiday. Neil, the owner, made us feel very welcome and was very attentive. The area and location is stunning and there are some beautiful walks to be had! We are already missing the cottage and will most certainly be back in the near future! I would highly recommend this Cottage as it is one of the very best ones we have stayed in!

Thank you for the excellent communication throughout the booking and settling in process.

  18. Mark

We had a great stay and loved the house. For us it was a walking weekend and we found the house perfect for walks from the door. We also appreciated how dog friendly it was. There’s also a rear pub in the village where we had a lovely evening meal and a lunch too.

A lovely cottage in a great location. Had everything that you needed. Host on hand to help. Good dog walks in local area, particularly enjoyed the walks along the river nearby and up in the hills.

  25. Ashini

Lovely views, fantastic kitchen with everything you need and beautiful countryside at your doorstep. Wes had a wonderful stay.

  26. Emily

We had the loveliest week at Swale View. The cottage is beautiful inside and out, and the view as gorgeous as the photos show. We would definitely book to go there again.

  27. Tom

Excellent location, well kitted out and really smooth and relaxed communication / check in / stay. Highly recommended.

  28. Carol Barlow

A fabulous place from which to explore Swaledale with or without dogs. An extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean and well maintained cottage with all mod cons in the kitchen. The bed linen in particular was luxurious. Wonderful views and lots of great walks right on your doorstep along with bike riding the ‘Swale Trail’. I would recommend a visit to the Punchbowl – only a short walk from the house – a perfect end to a day exploring the Dales.

  29. Amanda

    Beautiful Views. Very Peaceful.

  30. Jamie

The cottage was great we all loved it. The kitchen especially, and the sitting room were really well equipped and cosy.

  31. Laura

Lovely cottage, very quiet but close enough to get in some good walks – the Swale Trail is great – along with lots of nearby pubs plus the Fish & Chips van on a Friday night. What could be better!

  32. Anne Wyatt

Swale View was a good choice for a family reunion with 5 adults and one dog. The spacious kitchen, along with the separate dining and living rooms allowed us to do separate activities at times and not feel crowded. Welcomed the heated large porch area for loading and unloading the cars and muddy boots/coats. Little paved garden area was helpful for letting the dog out when needed. Cosy with the burners lit too.

Hannah at Holiday Home Yorkshire was super helpful when we had one of two issues, responding very promptly and welcoming our feedback.

  33. Emma

Swale View was a lovely cottage, beautiful views, lovely character and modern interior. Hannah was a great host, answered all our questions promptly and did everything she could to make sure we were comfortable. We would definitely go and stay here again!

  34. Sophie

Beautiful spacious cottage with lovely views.

  35. Phil

You want a fabulous view, quiet location, stylish house? It’s all there at Swaleview, lovely place and well appointed. Thoroughly recommend

  36. Rebecca

Neil’s place is really beautiful. An absolute haven.

  37. Barbara

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting near to local pubs with good food. Some lovely walks nearby. Very well equipped kitchen. Would happily book again.
