Accomodation Description

Turbine House is a beautiful Yorkshire Dales holiday cottage situated in a peaceful spot within the popular village of Reeth in Swaledale. Turbine House is a two story holiday cottage that offers charming accommodation for up to three people in two bedrooms. It has been tastefully renovated to a high standard yet still maintains much of its history and character.

Historically, this dales holiday cottage housed the turbines and generators that powered Reeth with its electricity. The remains of which are still very present in the cottage as the old pull wheels are suspended from the living room ceiling. In recent years renovations have been carried out to modernise the property and to add the home comforts that make this a perfect Yorkshire Dales retreat. Renovations include; a new kitchen, a new bathroom and the installation of oil central heating.

The entrance to Turbine House takes you straight into the light and airy kitchen. The kitchen is spacious, fully equipped, and has plenty of work surface and storage space for your personal items. There is also a dining table that offers seating for 3 people.

To the left of the kitchen is the door through to the living room. The living room is of a good size and offers a cosy environment to unwind in the comfortable seating in front of the wood burning stove. From the living room the sleeping accommodation is accessed on the first floor. Immediately up the stairs there is the bathroom with a three piece suite and a shower over. The double bedroom is to your right and offers ample storage space and views towards the Arkle Beck. The single bedroom is next door to the double bedroom and offers similar views.

The location of this holiday cottage is ideal for those looking for a romantic, secluded break in the Yorkshire Dales. The cottage is situated down a road away from the bustle of the village. It overlooks the Arkle Beck and is in the shadows of Fremington Edge. It is also ideal for anyone wishing to explore the local walks from the doorstep such as Fremington Edge, Calver Hill and High Harker Hill or the less strenuous riverside walks. The rest of the Yorkshire Dales is easily accessible with the neighbouring dale of Arkengarthdale only minutes away and a short drive to Wensleydale and beyond.

The local amenities in Reeth are only a couple of minutes’ walk away and offer ample pubs and eateries such as The Buck Hotel, The Black Bull and The Crown. The Buck Hotel also offers a takeaway pizza and kebab menu should you want a takeaway. A mile down the road in the direction of Leyburn there is the Bridge Inn opposite St Andrews Church in Grinton. Up dale there is The Punch Bowl in Low Row that offers gastro meals and the Farmers Arms in Muker which offers traditional pub meals. There are also a number of tearooms, an ice cream parlour and a restaurant within The Burgoyne Hotel.

Turbine House is one of our dog friendly holiday cottages, one well behaved dog welcome (if you have more than one dog please call 01748 900420). This Dales holiday cottage is an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation as there are many good dog walks nearby, and dog friendly pubs.

The history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

The cottage is set in a lovely part of Reeth, next to the Arkle river and just a minute or two’s walk from the central green. The cottage itself is clean, tidy and beautifully decorated with soft colours and tasteful details. Everything you could need is provided for, and the bed is soooooo comfortable! Rose and family gave us a very warm welcome, and we really appreciated the little extras on our arrival.
We cannot recommend this place more highly. A real treat, and the ideal antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern life (oh and our dog, Holly, loved it too!).
    We shall certainly return!

  24. Melanie

The cottage was cosy and well equipped. We especially liked the location – close to the river, close to the centre of the village, walks from the front door. Parking was easy, there was somewhere to exercise the dog morning and evening and it suited the three of us (and the dog) very well. Reeth has everything needed day to day as well as being very attractive.
