Accomodation Description

Wardle House is an impressive, recently restored detached Yorkshire Dales holiday cottage in the village of Low Row in Swaledale. Due to its wonderful location Wardle House enjoys stunning views of the Swale Valley, the dales and fells beyond from every room. The panoramic views from the private walled terrace makes it a very popular holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

This dales holiday cottage holds a wealth of history and we are sure a tale or two – if only walls could speak. The first paper records date back to 1893 but we are sure that the property is many years older. Occupants of the house have been varied and records show that it has homed miners from the famous mining era and later farmers. But what’s even more intriguing is that from drawings it has been identified that the lower ground floor was for stabling and hay storage, and later Wardle House was the local village store and café.

But today, Wardle House is a welcoming holiday cottage, lovingly restored to combine the original character of the property and the smart modern furnishing. The holiday cottage is very spacious and ideal for families with children or even two families or a group of friends. It boasts four bedrooms, one family bathroom with bath and shower cubicle, one shower room plus a downstairs room with double futon and wet room.

What really makes Wardle House special is that it has been partly restored as an eco-friendly property, which in Swaledale is very rare. If you are visiting in the summer months the solar panels will heat your water for you! There is heating via modern electric radiators and in the dining room there is  a multi-fuel stove and a lovely open fire in the lounge which is wonderful to relax in front of after a busy day exploring.

The kitchen is large and has all the essentials that you will require for your stay and plenty of work top space to whip up some culinary delights! The kitchen leads through to a utility area via three steps.

The dining room is of a very good size and is extremely light due to Wardle House’s south facing location, it has an idyllic environment to dine with the traditional beams, the view of Swaledale and a small reading library. But, in those summer months why not dine alfresco and enjoy the panoramic views that this fantastic property offers.

Wardle House is in a prime location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and as in the heart of Swaledale you’ll have excellent access to the surrounding dales such as Arkengarthdale, Wensleydale and the Upper Eden Valley. What’s also great about Wardle Houses location is that it is very close to Low Row’s village pub that has been refurbished, The Punch Bowl. At The Punch Bowl you will be offered superb food and excellent ale! Alternatively, it is roughly a 3 mile walk to Gunnerside the neighbouring village where the Kings Head pub will offer you and your dog an extremely warm welcome. At the Kings Head you can also treat your dog to a selection of dog beers and nibbles as the pub is renowned for its very popular dog menu. It also has free WiFI.

Wardle House is one of our dog friendly holiday cottages, one well behaved dog welcome. There are a number of dog friendly pubs in the area and plenty of walks locally which make this dales holiday cottage an ideal choice if you are looking for pet friendly accommodation.

To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided and electric is included in the rental price.

Low Row

The Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley. Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...

A fantastic cottage for a large group. Everything you need. The layout is unique and makes you think about it’s long history. Great spot to walk or ride from…The selling point though has to be the view from the dining room. Truly breathtaking. We will be back.
