Langthwaite is one of the few villages in Arkengarthdale, North Yorkshire. It is also the largest and the main settlement in the dale and only 3 miles north of Reeth. The road leading to Langthwaite from Reeth is winding and unfenced, sheep roam freely and there are fantastic views of the rugged and wild landscape that is so defining of Arkengarthdale. ...
Find out more about this locationThe history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...
Find out more about this locationRichmond was founded by the Normans in 1071, and is overflowing with history, mostly centred around one of the finest tourist attractions in North Yorkshire – Richmond Castle. The castle, finished in 1086, is one of the greatest Norman fortresses in the UK and well worth a visit, not only to hear the history of the unruly North but to see the stunning views of the Dales from the castle keep and the tranquil Cockpit garden. ...
Find out more about this locationThe Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley. Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...

Bridge End is a very comfortable quirky, dog friendly little cottage. Spent a week here and it is perfectly located to visit the dales. Did many walks in surrounding area. Beautiful scenery on the doorstep. The cottage has everything you need and is very cosy. Hannah kept in touch prior to our arrival. Langthwaite is a beautiful little village and people so friendly. The CB inn is a 15 minute walk away and is very welcoming and serves delicious food. We would like to return again in the future.
Katie –
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. Location was perfect for exploring the Dales. We found everything we needed in the cottage, it was very clean throughout. The kitchen has everything you could need. The under floor heating downstairs is lovely. Lots of piping hot water. Very comfy king size bed with good pillows. The CB Inn is a walkable distance and does fantastic food – very dog friendly. The Red Lion round the corner from the cottage is like stepping back in time – a great local pub (no dog or children allowed). We would definitely stay here again if visiting this part of Yorkshire again.
Abigail –
Absolutely lovely little cottage. Superb location. Linen was so fresh and fragrance.
Luke –
We loved our stay at this little cottage. The location is great with plenty of nice walks in the dales nearby.
Allison –
Such a gorgeous cottage, very quaint and lots of lovely features like the exposed beams, up lighters and of course the under floor heating was very very nice. Great location too. And in the summer there is a lovely outside area with a river running past. We really enjoyed our stay here and no problem giving it five stars and recommending it to others.
Mark –
Great cottage in a lovely area
Felicity –
Excellent stay
Lisa –
Fabulous cottage warm and cosy with everything you need. Beautiful location and we absolutely loved it. Hannah was an amazing host very proactive and really useful instructions. Hope to return again in the future.
Emily –
Stayed here twice and will always return, such a lovely place and little village! Comfort and peace
Josh –
Quaint cottage remote enough to be secluded, but close enough to Reeth for day-to-day amenities. Perfect for a dales getaway complete with great underfloor heating and log burner.
Georgina –
The cottage was just what we were looking for as a base to explore the dales. Clean and well kept with plenty of kitchen essentials to cook our own meals. We stayed with a baby and a dog and were very happy.
Dominic –
This was a lovely stay for the two of us and our one-year-old daughter (there are stairs, including some quite steep ones, but with supervision were no trouble). Hannah was able to move our reservation from another property after the owners were unable to accommodate our baby, which was much appreciated. The place is lovely and warming with loads of character and a fantastic location. The parking is a bit tight and would have been a problem with a longer car than our Tiguan. Would definitely come back!
Karen –
Very good location. Amazing communication with the manager who was able to accommodate a change to our plans with ease.
Julia and Gary –
This was a perfect cottage well equipped and situated in a peaceful unspoilt part of Yorkshire, just what we needed to re charge our batteries. Lovely walks with the dogs from the door. Thanks Julia and Gary
Chris –
Gorgeous cottage in a stunning location. Lovely place, very nice cottage with really high quality fittings. Langthwaite is a perfect location to explore the dales on foot or on bike. The fact you can walk to the CB Inn for amazing food is a nice bonus!
Zoe –
Pretty little cottage, perfect for a couple or small family to enjoy many walks around the Dales. It was clean and had all the equipment you would need. The only thing I feel was missing was a welcome pack – even if just bread, milk and a couple of tea bags as the nearest shop is a drive away on country roads. I would recommend staying at the cottage , especially if you are looking for a peaceful retreat.
Louise –
A beautiful cottage in the middle of stunning surrounding. Plenty of beautiful walks and lots of pubs and places within driving distance to enjoy. We really enjoyed our time here. Only feedback is we wish we would have been informed of the power cut happening in the village ahead of time so we could have planned our outings accordingly. We would come back.
Tracy –
We were so impressed with the warm and dry cottage – being stone and not the best summer, we weren’t expecting how well built and maintained it was. It made our walking holiday easy and lots of nooks and crannies to keep your things organized and clean. Fantastic walks from here and not much need to go elsewhere if you don’t fancy it, but also close enough to the Pennines and swimming holes. Food at the local pubs was very good.
Graeme –
Lovely location . Cute little cottage.
Mike –
The cottage is ideally located for exploring the moors and the surrounding areas. We did several day trips from the area. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay with our dog and 15 month old daughter. There are limited shops in the area so just remember to stock up on your way. There are several great pubs and cafes in Reeth (short drive) and the CB Inn a 15 minute walk. Overall a well recommended stay for anyone considering a break to Yorkshire!
Paula –
Lovely little cottage in very quiet location, no local amenities though so pack essentials as you have to drive to nearest shops. Lovely walk along river and through fields. The cottage is equipped with everything you need, a little welcome pack would have been a nice gesture but other than that everything was just as expected. Weather was perfect and it was nice to sit outdoors on patio area overlooking stream.
Lucy –
Had a lovely stay at Bridge End. The location was very quiet and picturesque but a little drive away from amenities.
Fiona –
Lovely property with great views.
Sean –
Lovely place to stay! The place was spotless and in a beautiful setting! Thank you
Faye –
What a beautiful part of the world – we’re so very lucky here in Yorkshire! The property was beautiful, comfortable, clean and warm. The surrounding are views just incredible. We didn’t venture to the very nearby Red Lion as they aren’t dog friendly but The CB Inn was lovely – welcoming, very friendly, warm, nice bar offers and good grub. Discovered the wonderful sculptor Michael Kosz in Reeth – also the Two Dales Bakery and cafe – lovely! Drove up to The Tan Hill – the highest pub in Britain. Had a wonderful time and would definitely visit again. Thank you!
Dominic –
Great little place in the heart of the dales. Really well kitted out, warm and very comfortable
Hayley –
Absolutely gorgeous little cottage! My partner and I and our two dogs loved our stay at Bridge End. Place was spotless and so cozy! Loved the log burner! Lovely views and walks and the local pubs/cafes and shop in Reeth are highly recommended. Hannah was a super helpful host, the cottage really is a credit to the owner. We will be back! Thank you xx
Nicholas –
Beautiful place to stay loads of walks close by
Becky –
Adored our little cottage break. Peaceful and relaxing. We will be booking again.
Trevor –
Well furnished and equiped cottage with lovely walks from the front door.
Emily –
Had a really lovely time, great walks near by and amazing views. Biggest supermarket is 30 mins away so might be worth going there before coming to the house.
Gil gray –
Beautiful cottage. Everything you need.go prepared as very remote ie shops but amazing location.very comfortable even though I had a horrible bug whilst there still felt at home. Need to visit again to enjoy surrounding landscape
Jennifer –
Very quaint and delightful cottage in the heart of the most amazing village. Lots of great walks on your doorstep!
Nea –
A cosy cottage, tastefully furnished and comfortable. Very handy for the pub in lovely Langthwaite with walks from the door.
Simon –
Fantastic home in a fantastic location, will be back! Thanks!
Jane –
The cottage was cosy, and stylishly furnished with natural materials. In a lovely setting by the Beck, it was a great base to explore the beautiful countryside nearby. Having the Red Lion pub a few minute’s walk away was a bonus. We had a problem with the radiator in the bedroom, which Hannah dealt with very promptly. We enjoyed our stay.
James –
Cottage perfect for the two of us well equipped[apart from no corkscrew] ,local pub excellent.
Philip –
Nice little cottage.
Persefoni –
Absolutely loved the cottage. Felt right at home. Quaint and comfortable. I hope to return soon
Marilyn –
Absolutely beautiful cottage in the quiet splendor that is the Yorkshire Dales! Everything we needed in the cottage and as we knew it would be remote, we made sure to shop on the way to the cottage.
Geraldine –
Very happy with the cottage, exactly as advertised. We knew parking was for one car only. Nearby car park was helpful. Everything was clean on our arrival and very well equipped. Enough firewood for log burner for first night and instructions clear on how to operate and where to buy more. My only problem was access, never having used a key safe before couldn’t work out how to get key out once we had put in code. A phone call from a nearby phone box to Hannah had it sorted. Very quaint cottage, lots of thought gone into kitting it out. Will be back.
Claire –
A beautiful little cottage in an ideal spot. Easy to find, simple check-in and everything necessary for a short break away in the countryside. Perfect for two people, but if you are above average height be prepared to duck several times when moving around! As described, not really suitable for those with mobility problems or those with small children. More than adequate kitchen equipment for cooking, though only a small amount of space available for storing food. No ice box/freezer either. Beds with crisp, fresh linen were extremely comfortable and with dark skies and silence at night, we slept well. Shower was excellent too. Lovely outside area overlooking the Beck, perfect for a morning brew or evening glass of wine. We stayed for 5 days and managed trips out to Durham, Richmond and Barnard Castle. Great walks though from the doorstep and two pubs within easy walking distance. Would recommend and would certainly visit again.
Jacqui –
Traditional Yorkshire cottage by a babbling brook.
Andrew –
Great location. Thanks for the stay
David –
We had a great stay here. Perfect size and location for us as a couple on a walking holiday. Host was responsive and helpful.
Andrew –
Quirky property that has been modernised to a very high standard. Great location to explore the Yorkshire Dales. One point if you take your dog: there is no enclosed area to let your dog out for a comfort break. You need to put them on the lead to take them out. This is made clear in the listing.
Nick –
Wonderful countryside with interesting traces of former lead industry. Attractive villages and glorious walks to be had.
Simon –
Fantastic location.
