Masham is one of Yorkshires calmer market towns located on the banks of River Ure in Wensleydale. Masham is home to a rural working community with a truly charming olden day vibe that makes it a very popular spot for artists and authors, especially around the time of the Masham arts festival held every other year.
Masham is well known for having the largest market square in Yorkshire, but for the real ale drinkers amongst you, you might be more familiar with the family run Black Sheep Brewery. The Black Sheep Brewery offers a great day out especially if the Great British weather is being, well, Great British – get out of the rain with a hearty Yorkshire pint.
The market town also hosts an annual steam engine rally – Masham Steam Engine & Fair Organ Rally’ – supporters turn out for the rally no matter the weather and draws both locals and tourists. The rally is very entertaining day with plenty of steam engines but for us the highlight has to be the tractor display.
