The bustling market town, Settle, is situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Settle is a very popular choice for a base for those wanting to explore the Yorkshire Dales as many activities, walks, potholes and caves are right on the door step. Popular also for the surrounding scenery, this can be described as nothing less than beautiful.

Settle Market

Settle market, found at Market Place behind the Shambles (a beautiful 3 story building oozing with history), brings a sense of excitement to the market town every Tuesday when the weekly market is held. There are many stalls that occupy the main street offering a host of products such as local fresh meat, home baked products, dairy products, music, clothing and much more. Due to the popularity of the market, it is best to park in one of the three nearby car parks as parking directly at the market is virtually impossible.

Settle to Carlisle railway

Settle is famous for the 72 mile railway line from Settle to Carlisle opened to passengers 1 May 1876. This fantastic railway line took seven years and 6,000 men to construct and was the last main railway line to be constructed almost completely by hand. The journey will take you through what people have said to be some of the finest views in the UK. On route you will witness the stunning Yorkshire Dales including; rolling hills, rural villages and market towns, you’ll travel across the impressive Ribblehead Viaduct and travel through one of the UK’s longest tunnels through Blea Moor. The journey is very enjoyable and relaxing and an easy way to see more of the Yorkshire Dales.
