Accommodation Description

Tucked away in a quiet corner of the olde worlde, picturesque village of Langthwaite is Copley House, a traditional stone-built dales cottage and superb holiday home. Situated next to the babbling Arkle Beck and surrounded by the rugged and varied landscape of Arkengarthdale. Copley House is in an ideal location for any nature or outdoor enthusiast. It is also conveniently only a stone’s throw from the infamous Red Lion Pub which most will recognise from the opening scenes of the original All Creatures Great and Small.

The ground floor has recently been refurbished to a very high standard and now offers a stunning, modern, and spacious open plan living area. It is quite striking how delightfully bright and cheerful the living area is with large, double glazed windows allowing in lots of light. This with the addition of a mix of contemporary and traditional furnishings provides a very tranquil and peaceful setting to enjoy a restful holiday in the Yorkshire Dales.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all you should require during your stay with plenty of storage space and worksurface. There is a fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and dining table suitable for 4 people. The living space offers comfortable seating for 4 people around the wonderful wood burner, perfect to curl up in front of on cooler evenings. The cottage is heated throughout with oil central heating and benefits from free WiFi, flat screen TV and a skybox with freeview channels. Upstairs sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms, one double, one twin, with traditional beams plus a family bathroom.

Outside there is a small, enclosed patio area with bench seating for alfresco dining or enjoying a coffee on a summer’s morning. There is also an outhouse for secure bike storage and parking area for one car.

There are endless footpaths and bridleways straight from the door. From gentle low-level walks along the Arkle Beck to Reeth to higher more challenging hikes up Fremington Edge and Calver Hill. The area is also hugely popular for cycling with so many routes to choose from either on or off road. There is also bike hire available locally in Grinton at the Dales Bike Centre and the Swale Trail, which is a purpose-built off-road bike trail for families with young children who wish to ride together or perhaps have a pushchair or maybe limited mobility.

Langthwaite is an ideal base to explore the local area. Only 3 miles from the popular village of Reeth, that boasts many amenities such as pubs, restaurant, cafes, ice cream parlour, post office and gift shops. The highest pub in England is, The Tan Hill, which is only 8 miles away and certainly worth a visit. From Langthwaite you can also gain easy access to Barnard Castle, where you can visit attractions such as the Bowes Museum. Richmond is a Georgian market town with several attractions to visit such as the historic Georgian theatre, castle and Ellerton Abbey. Leyburn and Hawes are also popular market towns offering further amenities, pubs, cafes, supermarkets, restaurants. Hawes houses museums including the Wensleydale Creamery, Rope Makers and nearby is Middleham and Bolton Castle and the Forbidden Corner.

To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed linen and towels are provided and the electric and oil is included in the rental price.

Location

Reeth

The history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

Low Row

The Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley. Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...

  1. Lenka

A good-sized, clean and well-equipped cottage, loved the fireplace! Walks straight from cottage, sound of stream flowing just next to the cottage was a plus.

  2. Elizabeth

Cosy cottage in a lovely location.

  3. Paul

Lovely cottage. Great spot by the beck. We warmed up the house with great central heating and coal fire and were very snug. The Red Lion is a joy. A pub with fine beer and a warm welcome. Walked over the tops to Swaledale – snow capped moors and incredible weather. Very lucky. All amenities good quality and well stocked.

  4. Tom

The cottage is beautifully positioned in the village. It is very comfortable and the stove is a real bonus on the colder evenings. Lovely walks from the door and a great launch pad to discover the rest of the dales.

  5. Simon

We had such a wonderful break staying at Copley House. The location was not only idyllic but also perfect for local walking and exploring. The house was warm and welcoming. Very well appointed with interesting books too.

  6. Shauna

Lovely village to stay in next to river. Lots of walks on the doorstep. Real village pub. ldeal place to tour the area from.

  7. Ammar

We had a pleasurable stay at cottage. The walks near by and overall location to access other areas of Dales by road were fantastic. The cottage itself was comfortable and the kitchen /lounge area was modern. The checkin process was seamless and their was informative material available within the cottage about Dales.

  8. Hilary

Best Air BnB we’ve stayed in so far. All excellent!

  9. Theresa

Amazing place. We will be back

  10. Jennifer

Very peaceful and quiet. Great place to visit the local area

  11. Patrice

The cottage we rented met our expectations. It is very cute, very clean, well arranged and well supplied (enough linens, dishes, utensils, appliances). That’s very valuable. The location is also very nice. The village is very cute and the surrounding scenery is beautiful!! Paradise for hikers. The Pub opposite is run by a lovely and welcoming lady. Go ahead! Only one downside: the total lack of mobile phone network in the village and its surroundings. I would have liked to have known that before booking. The owner told me when sending check-in instructions for check-in. I specify that there is still wifi in the house. In short, we had a lovely time there.

  12. Helen

Lovely property, lovely location. Character pub just steps away. Great walks and bike rides from the door. Cottages was excellent difficult shower over the bath if you are tall and a way to make a shower curtain/screen would improve use. Lots of kitchen equipment we could have done with smaller frying pan, baking tray and smaller saucepans. Front garden could have done with a being tided up. All small things overall a lovely stay and we would stay again.

  13. Christian

Very nice stay. Quiet surroundings , pleasant small village and stunning landscape.

  14. Olivier

Had a great stay at the cottage, very easy place to stay in, kitchen was really well equipped which was great. Great location too with lots of great walks straight from the door. Good size, perfect for a family of 4.

  17. Graham

A very well equipped cottage ideal if you want a rural retreat. Close to the friendly Red Lion Inn.

The cottage was very warm and inviting the furnishings of high standard. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you needed plus more. It was nice to have all the cleaning products provided to enable us to keep everything clean and tidy, this was a nice surprise. Thought had gone into the property and loved to find the sewing box in the lounge sideboard with glasses for any small mishaps. We would be happy to use this cottage again in future.

  18. Jayne

Everything was lovely, including the weather. We are familiar with the area as we have visited before quite often. It’s perfect for a get away from it all holiday, but there are 2 great pubs within very short walking distance, so that’s a bonus. The cottage is spotless with everything you need for a cosy stay Thank you, we hope to be back.

  19. Michelle

  22. Meredith

  23. Alex

Lovely cottage in walking distance to two pubs and plenty of walks straight out of the door – perfect!

  24. Laura

Copley House was wonderful, so clean and spacious enough for our family of four. The kitchen was spot on, the beds were comfy and the Red Lion was about a 30 second walk away (please not they don’t allow kids under 16 but did let us all in for a drink early doors). What a beautiful part of the world – I would highly recommend!

  25. Claire

Lovely cottage in a very scenic location. Very cosy with the log burner – we came in February and the weather was somewhat erratic but managed to have some good sunshine in between howling wind and rain! Good access for walks from the doorstep. The CB inn was a nice pub 20 minutes walk away (also one right opposite which we didn’t get to try). Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet getaway!

  26. Chris and Katie

Lovely cottage tucked away in the corner of a little Yorkshire village. Great location for exploring the Dales and a proper old pub just across the way. Perfect.
