Accommodation Description

Nestled, just a stone’s throw from the Village Green is Low Cottage, a holiday home for up to four people in the pretty village of Reeth in Swaledale.

This holiday cottage is a delightful and welcoming, end of terrace property where you shall feel right at home. It offers two comfortable bedrooms upstairs, one spacious master king bedroom to the front of the cottage and one twin bedroom to the rear.

Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen, a family shower room and a cosy living room with dining area and wood burner. The lounge and upper bedrooms have window seats which are perfect for soaking up the atmosphere of the village and the views of the surrounding hills from the bedrooms. The cottage is heated throughout by modern electric radiators, has free WiFi via fibre broadband and a 32inch smart TV with Freeview.

Outside the cottage is a cast iron bench, which is a lovely spot to enjoy a morning brew or a glass of vino in the evening after a day exploring the Dales. This bolt-hole is tucked slightly off the Green but close enough to be part of the buzz on a busy summer’s day.

All in all, this is the ideal base for a family, a couple or two couples, from which to explore this much-loved part of the world.

Low Cottage is situated in an outdoor enthusiast’s haven. Reeth is a charming village in the midst of the Swaledale Valley. The fell walking and bike riding here is second to none with the iconic Fremington Edge towering over Reeth and other fells such as Calver Hill and Harkerside, all of which are accessible straight from the door. Part of the well-trod Coast to Coast and Pennine Way long distance walks pass close by if you would like to take on a section or two. There are also many low-level walks. One can choose from riverside walks along the River Swale or the Arkle beck to the man-made surfaced path known as the Swale Trail which starts nearby in Grinton and finishes in Keld. This has been developed for those with young children whom wish to cycle together or have buggies, and for other people whom may have limited mobility.

You can also take a scenic drive to the market town of Hawes over the infamous Buttertubs, or to Leyburn over Grinton Moor both of which were thrust into the limelight during the Tour de France in 2014 – Grinton Moor being the last major climb of Stage 1. It is still a popular road ride today and is part of many popular routes in the area.

There are various pubs locally and 3 within the village itself, so you’ll find no problem purchasing that well-earned pint or proper pub grub after a day’s activity. In the village there is also The Burgoyne Hotel, for a special meal and amazing Sunday roast, 4 cafes, a post office with a shop for essential items, 2 bakeries, a photography gallery, a museum, arts and craft centre and ice cream parlour.

What’s more, Low Cottage is also one of our dog friendly cottages and welcome one well behaved dog .  If you are bringing bikes with you there is a metal bike stand to the rear of the accommodation which is secured to the ground for bike storage, all you will need is your lock. Parking is on a first come first served basis on the Village Green which is approximately 10 metres away from the cottage.

Electricity and initial supply of wood for the log burner, towels, bed and kitchen linen are included in the rental charge.

LOCATION

Reeth

Reeth

The history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

Low Row

The Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley. Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...

Beautifully clean cottage in an idyllic setting. The house was lovely and warm when we arrived, which was very much appreciated for a chilly weekend, as were the fresh milk and delicious biscuits. Fantastic walks all over, every one of which our dogs loved. The cottage had everything we needed. A very well equiped kitchen, and we were happy to see for the first time in all our rentals, proper Gin glasses! Large, quality wine glasses too. In fact, the cottage was equipped with quality items…furniture, furnishings and utensils, crockery etc.The beds were very comfortable, with nice fluffy pillows. The log burner was very cosy on the chilly evenings, especially after a nice hot shower in the spacious cubicle, with a decent, powerful shower. Across the green are some great pubs serving a great range of beers and tasty food, and each one had a warm, friendly welcome. The quaint little post office and shop we found to be well equipped for anything we needed.

  2. David

This was our second stay, great accommodation, centre of village, beautiful scenery, great pubs food and drink. Will be visiting again next year!

  3. Tom

Really enjoyed our stay in Reeth. The cottage is lovely and had everything we needed for the two of us for a few days exploring the Dales. Parking on the green was easy (good job we had some change for the hotel meaty box). Plenty of space for the dog’s crate in the lounge area. Plenty of lovely walks to do from the village. Will happily go again.

  4. Jacob

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely cottage and great hosts.

  5. Partha

Great spot to explore the dales from. Highly recommend

  6. Janet

Low cottage is very good value for money. Well equipped with constant hot water. Four of us used it as a base for hiking and exploring. Very convenient location.

  7. Sarah

Low Cottage is a cosy, conveniently located and well appointed cottage in the middle of Reeth. It felt secluded but was situated within easy walking distance of the village shop/post office, pubs and parking. Reeth is one of the walking capitals of the Dales and cannot be matched for the variety of routes that lead to and from the village. We were really lucky with the weather and had gorgeous walks in the morning and afternoon, returning to the cottage for our meals. The countryside around Reeth is stunning and places of interest such as Castle Bolton and Aysgarth Falls are within an easy half hour drive. The cottage is hosted by Hannah who was very responsive to messages and supported us really well throughout our stay. Would return to the cottage in a heartbeat and definitely recommend it as a brilliantly run cottage.

  8. Liz

Well appointed property had everything we needed. Great location for walking and biking. Useful to have a lockable bike shed Three pubs in walking distance! We will stay again.

  9. Maeve

The cottage is in the perfect location. Two pubs and several cafes are within walking distance and there are also several walks on the doorstep. Reeth is an excellent spot to base yourself for exploring the dales.

  10. Ian

Very nice cottage in perfect location

  11. Tom

Low Cottage is cozy and comfortable in a location close to the centre of Reeth. A great base for our first visit to Swaledale. Hannah was an excellent host, friendly and responsive to a couple of questions we had.

  12. Anna

Excellent cottage in a beautiful part of Yorkshire

  13. Diane

This was a lovely home and I immediately felt comfortable. There was an issue with the new bedroom radiator not switching on but Hannah quickly responded and organised for it to be sorted. I appreciated her calm and quick handling of this for me. it wasn’t something which affected the whole house, so not a big deal how ever she attended to it immediately. The house had everything I could need and was right in the centre of Reeth making it convenient for me to get to anywhere. I highly recommend this stay and I will go there again if I return to the UK.

  14. Ashley

Charming cottage in beautiful location, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Great to be in the center of the village and experience living in a traditional stone house. Friendly greeting, the milk and cookies were a lovely touch on arrival.
