Accommodation Description

Nestled, just a stone’s throw from the Village Green is Low Cottage, a holiday home for up to four people in the pretty village of Reeth in Swaledale.

This holiday cottage is a delightful and welcoming, end of terrace property where you shall feel right at home. It offers two comfortable bedrooms upstairs, one spacious master king bedroom to the front of the cottage and one twin bedroom to the rear.

Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen, a family shower room and a cosy living room with dining area and wood burner. The lounge and upper bedrooms have window seats which are perfect for soaking up the atmosphere of the village and the views of the surrounding hills from the bedrooms. The cottage is heated throughout by modern electric radiators, has free WiFi via fibre broadband and a 32inch smart TV with Freeview.

Outside the cottage is a cast iron bench, which is a lovely spot to enjoy a morning brew or a glass of vino in the evening after a day exploring the Dales. This bolt-hole is tucked slightly off the Green but close enough to be part of the buzz on a busy summer’s day.

All in all, this is the ideal base for a family, a couple or two couples, from which to explore this much-loved part of the world.

Low Cottage is situated in an outdoor enthusiast’s haven. Reeth is a charming village in the midst of the Swaledale Valley. The fell walking and bike riding here is second to none with the iconic Fremington Edge towering over Reeth and other fells such as Calver Hill and Harkerside, all of which are accessible straight from the door. Part of the well-trod Coast to Coast and Pennine Way long distance walks pass close by if you would like to take on a section or two. There are also many low-level walks. One can choose from riverside walks along the River Swale or the Arkle beck to the man-made surfaced path known as the Swale Trail which starts nearby in Grinton and finishes in Keld. This has been developed for those with young children whom wish to cycle together or have buggies, and for other people whom may have limited mobility.

You can also take a scenic drive to the market town of Hawes over the infamous Buttertubs, or to Leyburn over Grinton Moor both of which were thrust into the limelight during the Tour de France in 2014 – Grinton Moor being the last major climb of Stage 1. It is still a popular road ride today and is part of many popular routes in the area.

There are various pubs locally and 3 within the village itself, so you’ll find no problem purchasing that well-earned pint or proper pub grub after a day’s activity. In the village there is also The Burgoyne Hotel, for a special meal and amazing Sunday roast, 4 cafes, a post office with a shop for essential items, 2 bakeries, a photography gallery, a museum, arts and craft centre and ice cream parlour.

What’s more, Low Cottage is also one of our dog friendly cottages and welcome one well behaved dog .  If you are bringing bikes with you there is a metal bike stand to the rear of the accommodation which is secured to the ground for bike storage, all you will need is your lock. Parking is on a first come first served basis on the Village Green which is approximately 10 metres away from the cottage.

Electricity and initial supply of wood for the log burner, towels, bed and kitchen linen are included in the rental charge.

The history of Reeth dates way back to the 18th Century, where it used to be the capital of the lead mining industry and a local centre for hand knitting, with a population of 1,460. However, the area has evolved into the centre of the beautiful farming community that we see today. At the heart of Reeth is a triangular green, surrounded by the local community, pubs, teas rooms, restaurant and gift shops. Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

The Coast to Coast walk passes very close by the village but for those that are not so keen on such a challenge, there are many less strenuous walks in the area. For example, there is a beautiful walk that takes you nearly all the way to Grinton on the banks of the River Swale at the foot of the valley. Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...

We had a fabulous few days in a lovely cottage. It was situated opposite the village green and there was no problem with parking. There are 2 shops in the village which supplied all immediate needs. A special mention about the bread shop, Dales Bakery, which supplied a range of lovely breads as well as a good breakfast. Would certainly stay here again if we cam to Reeth in the future.

  2. Damian

Great cottage in a beautiful village with all the amenities we needed. Literally round the corner from the general store and post office, 3 minutes from 2 pubs (one was closed), a small market on a Friday morning from which we bought excellent food for 3 nights. Being tall, I did get a few bumps from the low doors and sloping bathroom ceiling, but I was warned in the description, and it is called Low Cottage! We will be back.

  3. James

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Low Cottage. The cottage is perfectly located in the heart of the picturesque village of Reeth with lovely views towards the village green and the hills beyond. The living room was cosy and comfortable, the kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to cook for ourselves and the bathroom was modern and clean (with a nice warm shower). The master bedroom upstairs is surprisingly roomy and spacious and the bed was very comfortable indeed. We loved how quiet and peaceful the cottage was (the cottage next door had just been sold and so was empty).

  4. Kerry

We had a great 4 night stay here. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It is situated in the centre of the village near to all amenities but is still very peaceful and private. There are fantastic views of the surrounding hills from the cottage and plenty of walks right from the doorstep. Hannah was very helpful and very easy to contact if needed. We would definitely stay here again.

  5. Frances

Stayed at Low Cottage in January in very cold and stormy weather conditions but the cottage was cosy and warm when the wood burner got going. Lovely place, would definitely stay again.

This was a great Airbnb right in the centre of Reeth. The cottage was cosy and had everything that we needed. There was plenty to do right from the cottage great walks and cosy pubs.

  10. Angela

Great place to stay in Reeth. So convenient for parking and checking out all on offer in and around Reeth. Very spacious accommodation and comfortable for cosy nights in. Loved meeting the locals in the three pubs and found the Christian book shop lovely for browsing.

  11. Natalie

Had a lovely long weekend stay as a couple with a dog. The cottage felt like home straight away and was beautifully decorated throughout, with everything provided that you could need. The view from the windows are stunning too. The lack of garden is no issue at all if you have a dog, as the village green is immediately accessible from the cottage. The village itself is beautiful with lots of great options for food and gifts. We really enjoyed the walks in the area too and had an amazing stay.

  12. Ruth

We were in the area for a festival so didn’t really get to explore Reeth, but it was so pretty, we intend to come back for hiking. The cottage was extremely practical for our needs, and very quiet at night — we slept well. Check-in was clear and easy, and everything was clean. We’d stay here again without hesitation.

  13. Ashley

A lovely little cottage in a stunning area of the country. The cottage was lovely and clean, and had everything we needed for our stay.

  14. Michelle

  15. Faye

We had a lovely time at this cottage, really accessible to all the amenities of the village and easy walking with kids in the surrounding hills and countryside. The cottage was clean and well equipped and possibly had the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in!

  16. Hannah

We loved our stay at Low Cottage. The location is perfect, in walking distance of several pubs and cafe’s. The house has everything you’d need. We would definitely recommend Low Cottage for your stay in Reeth.

  17. Scott

Beautiful location and space, really happy with everything from the picture perfect views to the location. Recommend to anyone!

  18. Tracy

Low Cottage, Reeth was as seen online. It is a comfortable and clean cottage. Amenities in the cottage are everything you need. In the heart of Reeth, but felt private and peaceful. Milk and packet of biscuits on arrival was a lovely touch. Everything in the cottage is comfy, the main bedroom surprisingly spacious and the bed super comfortable. Hannah (and Dai, the owner) were helpful and responsive when we called for advice. Walks and local amenities and activities on the doorstep. Perfect for exploring Reeth and Swaledale. Recommend this cottage. Look forward to revisiting.

Just had a fantastic 5 day break at Low Cottage, Reeth with our little dog to visit the Yorkshire Dales. This is a superbly located cottage within 100 metres of key facilities in the village. Low Cottage is picturesque as you first approach it (behind the Post Office) & everything you would expect (clean & fresh) suitably traditionally decorated & in keeping with the area. Really comfortable bed, TV has free view, we brought our own Amazon fire stick (Netflix) as an addition. There are new heaters in the cottage which were so easy to use when we put them on briefly in the evening, there is a manual on how it works. Loads of walking books to read in the cottage & Wi-Fi really fast throughout the property. Kitchen was spotless, modern, well stocked & everything you would expect. Bathroom really spacious, loved the wide shower & highly decorated. Master bedroom really nice, spacious, comfy bed & so traditional, we loved it. We didn’t use the other bedroom but looked lovely (twin beds). Reeth Village had so many nice places to eat/ drink, all of them dog friendly. We loved the ‘The Black Bull, The Buck, bakeries (there are two), ice cream parlour & other shops. We would definitely recommend Low Cottage to friends & family, and will 100% be coming back to this fantastic cottage/location for more great memories & such a lovely place – highly recommended!

Really good spot. Mind your head if a bit taller as it’s an old cottage with some low doorframes! Part of its charm, though. Would stay again.

Lovely little place to stay. I’m a regular visitor to this area and this is a great little spot to stay in the middle of Reeth. It’s a lovely space with modern fixtures and fittings. 37. Megan

Stunning cottage in one of the best places in the Dales. Loads of room and the bedroom was huge! Lovely dog friendly pubs and the ice cream parlour is great. Easy parking on the green. A heads up, the TV isn’t a smart tv so there’s no Netflix etc. Take an iPad or laptop if this is important. Also the welcome book says dogs should be kept downstairs.
