The Yorkshire Dales is host to some of the best agricultural shows in the UK. These shows are a great chance to adorn the tweed suits, grab a pint of real Yorkshire ale, see some impressive animal shows, try some mouth-watering local produce and to check out some new and vintage farming machinery.

Here’s a quick round up of the Agricultural shows in the Yorkshire Dales that we think are worth a visit:

The Great Yorkshire show is a great chance to see all your favourite farm animals from sheep to horses in a variety of displays and competitions held throughout the day. There is also plenty of things to see such as arts and crafts from around Yorkshire and all the different competition tents. For the more hardcore show goers the Great Yorkshire Show offers a ‘Hospitality’ service which offers, entrance to the show, preferential parking, morning coffee, Yorkshire buffet lunch and house wine, Yorkshire afternoon tea, a souvenir program and grandstand tickets.

The Kilnsey Show is a great show near Grassington, Wharfedale showcasing many local sheep, horses and cattle. There are also arts and crafts competitions for children to enter and plenty of stands to enjoy such as interesting crafts and tasty food and drink from local providers. Don’t forget to watch the fell race, and take a look at some of the farming machinery.

The Malhamdale Show is a short distance from the well-known and stunning Malham cove, so for this reason alone it is well worth a visit. It has a whole host of great displays such as the Mountain Bike Stunt Display Team, show jumping, a whippet show, Punch and Judy and a falconry demonstration. The Malhamdale Show is a great family day out featuring field catering from local providers and fun activities for children of all ages to enjoy.

The Masham Sheep Fair is a great day out, especially if you love sheep! It is renowned for the sale of sheep and is well attended by the farmers throughout the country. Past records show that sales hit up to 70,000 sheep in one event – now that’s a lot of sheep! But, it’s not all about the sales as entertaining events are held over the weekend such as sheep racing, Morris dancing and sheepdog demonstrations. Otherwise have a wonder round the flower festival or find out more about how real Yorkshire ale is brewed at the Theakston’s and Black Sheep Brewery Tour. All in all, it’s a great day out and you never know you may even end up taking home a few sheep.

The Muker Show has a great range of arts and crafts exhibits, from vegetable sculptures, to best Lego creation. It is fun for all the family as there are fairground rides, a host of sweet stalls and fancy dress for the children. Adults will love it too as you are surrounded by the beautiful flower meadows, a beer tent with real Yorkshire ales and plenty of market stalls to explore throughout the day. Entertainment also includes things like maypole dancing, cake competitions and don’t miss the fell race – it’s always exciting whether you take part or not!

The Nidderdale Show, in Pateley Bridge dates back to 1895 and is host to a number of enjoyable of events, such as an amazing equestrian gymnastics show which is awe inspiring. They also have a harness horse race which is a rare to see and a lot of fun to watch, a terrier race, live local bands featuring throughout the day, a funfair, a craft marquee and food produce.

The Reeth Show, hosted in the picturesque landscape of Swaledale is a traditional agricultural show and great family day out! For the adults this show is packed with delicious food stands selling fresh local produce, local exhibitions, local craft stands and a licenced bar. For the children there is often face painting, bouncy castles, rides and stalls. Throughout the day you can enjoy watching many displays in the arena from a fancy dress horseback contest, sheep dog demonstrations and vintage tractor and car displays. There are also sheep, poultry and rabbits competitions held throughout the day. You can even take part by entering your dog into various contests. The highlight for many is the children and adults impressive fell run up and down Fremington Edge.
