Accommodation Description

Penhill House is a fantastic, recently refurbished holiday home for 6 people in the centre of the pretty village of West Witton in Wensleydale. Only a short walk from one of Yorkshires renowned restaurants, The Wensleydale Heifer and a local’s favourite, the Fox and Hound pub serving some of the finest and best kept real ales in the Yorkshire Dales.

This end terrace holiday cottage has been refurbished to a very high standard and now offers an extremely comfortable, welcoming and spacious holiday retreat in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales spread over three floors.

The sleeping accommodation is on the third floor with one double bedroom with fabulous views across the farmland and fells beyond, one twin bedroom and one super king bedroom (which can be converted to a second twin if required). There is a large landing area with a grand staircase and a large decorative window which makes it a very light and airy space. Leading off from the landing is the family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and w.c.

The middle floor homes the contemporary and large kitchen / dining area, with a social layout, a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of storage and worksurface space including a central island which doubles up as a breakfast bar and a farmhouse style dining table for 6 people in front of a wood burning stove. The large kitchen window not only lets in a lot of sunlight but also the breath-taking views. The living room is cosy, with comfortable leather seats a second wood burning stove, a 43-inch smart tv and free WIFI for entertainment.

On the lower ground floor there is a second lounge aka the kids lounge with bean bags, apple tv and Xbox. There is also a utility area with sink, washing machine and tumble dryer and a storage area for bikes, coats and walking boots etc. There is a second exit from this room which gives access to the small seating area to the rear of the cottage with a bench and parking space for one car. Further parking can be found on the road outside the house on a first come first served basis.

The village of West Witton is a typical dales village, delightful, picturesque with a welcoming buzz. There are several walks leading straight from the front door from the Challenging Pen Hill hike to the more easy-going moorland walks to Carleton in Coverdale. There are numerous road and mountain bike rides in the area too. It really is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream.

Nearby is Aysgarth Falls, a superb triple flight waterfall which is a section of the River Ure around one mile long. The waterfalls are well worth a visit as are surrounded by beautiful woodlands and lovely, relaxing walks. Semerwater is also nearby, it is the second largest natural lake in North Yorkshire. It is a perfect spot for those who enjoy wild swimming and water sports although you shall need to bring your own equipment.  It is also a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic and enjoy the views.

The popular market towns of Hawes and Leyburn are also only a short drive away both offering a variety of cafes, gift shops, convenience stores and of course traditional dales pubs. A short walk from Hawes is Hardraw, home to Hardraw Force England’s Highest single drop waterfall made famous in the Hollywood blockbuster Robin Hood with Kevin Costner.

To ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible all bed and kitchen linen, towels, oil, electricity and  gas are included in the rental price.

Askrigg

Askrigg is steeped with history, the narrow cobbled streets and market place tell a busy story but the most interesting/sad tail comes from the iron bull ring set into the cobbles.
