Healaugh is a delightful hamlet at the foot of Calver Hill in the Swaledale Valley surrounded by spectacular scenery and working farms. It is perfectly situated for making the most of the fell walking in the area; you can walk up Calver Hill or Harker Side straight from the cottage. You can also walk the short and beautiful Riverside walk along the River Swale to Reeth.
Reeth, only a mile from Healaugh, offers a host of fantastic amenities with independent craft workshops, gift shops, museums, artisan bakeries, a cheese monger, three pubs serving real ales and great pub food, a restaurant with wine bar, an ice cream parlour, a post office with a plethora of essential groceries – we’re always amazed at how much they stock!
You enter the property straight into traditional farmhouse kitchen with a built-in full-size fridge/ freezer, electric oven, and hob with various pieces of cooking equipment. If you are a coffee lover, you will not be disappointed, the cottage is armed with a Nespresso machine and essenza pods, a cafetiere and moka pot!
From the kitchen you enter a tiled hallway which, to the left, leads through to a spacious living room with dining table situated in front of the large bay window overlooking the garden – a lovely spot to dine and make the most of your evenings together. The living area offers sumptuously deep sofas in which to curl up in front of the contemporary wood burner and large smart TV with Netflix and Sky Cinema…could there be a better place to put your feet up after an energetic day exploring the area to just chill in front of your favourite film? The downstair toilet and private garden can be accessed via the living room.
Upstairs is a light, airy and spacious master bedroom with double bed and wonderful, far-reaching views through the large bay windows. There is also a twin bedroom and a good size single bedroom with views of the hamlet. There is plenty of hanging and drawer space for clothes and belongings in all the bedrooms. The family bathroom is modern with underfloor heating, electric towel rail, bath with shower over, basin and w.c.
Sunnybrae East is heated throughout by modern electric, WIFI controlled radiators and underfloor heating in the bathroom. WiFi is available throughout too! On a summers day make the most of the long evenings in the enclosed and secluded south facing garden, a lovely spot to soak up the last of the sun’s rays or if you are a nature lover the most fantastic space to sit and listen to the bird chorus with your morning coffee.
There is an abundance of walks and cycle routes straight from the door or pop in the car a short drive to some of the iconic walks the area has to offer such as Fremington Edge, Gunnerside Gill or the world famous Swaledale Meadows in Muker. There are also national walking trails nearby such as the Coast to Coast or the Pennine Way if you fancy taking in a section of these popular routes.
The area was thrown into the limelight in 2014 when Stage 1 of the Tour de France whizzed through the Swaledale valley including Healaugh. Since then, road cycling, mountain biking, and gravel riding have been growing in popularity and is now one of England’s cycling mecca. There is cycling for all abilities, and cycle hire is available from The Dales Bikes Centre in Grinton, roughly 2 miles from Sunnybrae. Grinton is also the start of the Swale Trail – a purpose built cycling trail for families to cycle together. The Swale Trail is mainly off road with 70% of the 12 mile stretch off road offering a safe place for little legs to pedal. The Swale Trail is a shared bridleway, perfect for walking and pushing buggies or for those with mobility issues.

Beyond the immediate surrounds the village is overlooked by the stunning fells of Fremington Edge and Calver Hill which we can guarantee will provide a stunning backdrop to your visit. ...

Whilst you stroll along the river bank you can take in the stunning views of the rolling hills either side of you, which is stunning on a summers day! ...
