The Reeth 3 Day Trial is an annual motorcycle trial event organised by Richmond Motor Club. Unlike racing, this is a test of skill, not speed—riders navigate challenging off-road sections filled with rocks, climbs, bogs, and tight turns, aiming to stay upright and fault-free.
Each day features a different loop, with routes stretching across private farmland in Swaledale. Riders tackle steep gullies, high moorland tracks, and traditional Dales pasture, surrounded by dry-stone walls and sheep-dotted hillsides. It’s one of the most scenic and technically demanding trials in the UK—and you won’t find anything quite like it.
Because much of the land is actively farmed, the event has deep ties to local agricultural life. Farmers often act as marshals, or even competitors, and their cooperation is essential to making the event happen. It’s a perfect example of how traditional rural communities work together, blending outdoor sport with Yorkshire grit and generosity.
Although the trial is primarily for the riders, spectators are very welcome. Once the routes are released, you can find your way to one of the viewing spots—often in quite remote locations, so be sure to bring a flask, a sarnie, and some decent walking boots.
